The Fairwood Farmers Market is a vibrant, community-driven market with a mission to
create access to fresh, local food, support small businesses, and foster a sense of
community in Fairwood.
Position Summary
The Market Manager is the key on-site leader responsible for planning and operating a
successful Fairwood Farmers Market. This role combines administrative planning, vendor
curation, communication, and management, community relations, and hands-on
leadership to ensure that market days run smoothly, safely, and in alignment with the
mission of the Fairwood Community Association.
Responsibilities
Market Operations
• Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors, customers, volunteers,
musicians, and community partners.
• Procure special market activations (KERNEL, SNAP, etc.)
• Coordinate staff and volunteers for set up and break down for market equipment,
signage, and information booth each market day.
• Oversee vendor placement, check-in, and compliance with market rules and local
regulations.
• Ensure the market runs smoothly and safely each week, resolving conflicts or
issues as they arise.
Vendor & Community Relations
• Recruit, onboard, and support vendors to maintain a diverse and high-quality
market.
• Build relationships with local businesses, community groups, and sponsors.
• Engage with local and state market associations.
• Act as the face of the market in the community, representing the mission and values
of the organization.
Administration & Promotion
• Work with the Board of Directors to manage budgets, track fees, and maintain
records.
• Coordinate market promotion, including social media, newsletters, and community
outreach.
• Support fundraising efforts, sponsorships, and grant opportunities in collaboration
with the Board of Directors.
• Provide reports and updates to the Board as needed.
Qualifications
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Experience in event planning, community engagement, or small business/farmers
market settings preferred.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. (market equipment, tents, etc.).
• Availability on market days (Tuesdays, May–October) and additional hours for
planning and promotion as-needed.
Compensation & Hours
• This is a part-time, seasonal position. Hours range from 10–15 per week during the
off-season (February–April) and 15–20 per week during the market season (May–
October). Minimal hours, if any, are expected from November through January.
There may also be opportunities for optional, non-market-related projects.
• Market Manager may have the option to work on other Fairwood Community
Association projects and events to support organization goals and mission.
Additional projects will remain optional and at the discretion of the manager’s
interest and availability. Compensation will be the same for projects outside of
market responsibilities.
• Compensation range: $22-25/hour DOE
